Captured is a dance music performance, based on a breezy, soap-like story about love and about the choices that everyone has to make sooner or later.
Konstanze, a young Western girl, is kidnapped by a Sheikh. Her young inexperienced boyfriend goes on a journey to liberate her. In the harem, however, remains untouched by the power of Konstanze not that experienced and powerful man. They should eventually choose between these two men and worlds.
This story has been translated into now: a young, Turkish girl is betrothed and fantasize about an unknown, exciting man.
Underlying issue in the presentation of Captured is the question: is there such a thing as a pure, emotional, romantic feeling of love, or play there always a rational factor? In other words: there is actually a clear difference between an Oriental marriage and the choice of a Western someone for a life partner?
To get more clarity on partner choice and real love to get is a series of interviews done, with young and old Western and Oriental people in the Amsterdam boroughs De Baarsjes and Bos en Lommer. This intimate and sometimes endearing stories are in the version processed to create space and different objectives to place side by side. Thus a collage like program emerged.
By the various stories about the habits and cultures around love and finding a life partner a dialog opened. For Captured there is no decision or a final judgement. In Captured and in this program booklet is about personal stories, which may not fit in the own image, but still hit.
To further develop the theme of Captured, is a dialogue on the issue of love, with people of different backgrounds and outspoken (Eastern, Western, young and old) from De Baarsjes and Bos en Lommer. With people who were married in Netherlands in the 1950s, when the religion is also a determining influence on the morals of the population, had to people here and now, with an Arabic background. As the wife of the countryside of Morocco who at a young age is married to a Muslim from Amsterdam. Or the Dutch girl that flirt with the idea to convert to islam, wondering how they can be married. And the boys.
What are the memories and the rituals? How they found their partner? Was it love at first sight? What is love after 40 years of marriage? And also for the Dutch: Was there outside pressure for a certain partner to choose?
The comments are as diverse as they are in reality.
The dance performance Captured is a timeless story about love. The young Turkish/Dutch Konstanze is betrothed. Not knowing what her lies, she fantasises about the powerful old Sheikh. With his harem is Bassa at very attractive and repellent for her. The unknown Konstanze fascinates more than her secret boyfriend in Netherlands, which is much too young and inexperienced. Which of the two worlds and men will they choose?
Choreographer/Director Susanne Marx was Captured for inspired by the opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail of W.A. Mozart. The timeless love story on the kidnapping of a young Western girl to an Oriental harem has Marx at surprising way translated into now.
In the performance Captured meet old and young and the two cultures of Oriental opera and urban culture. The Sheikh Bassa is danced by retired topdanser of the National Ballet Francis Sincerretti. In addition to two young street-dancers rapster Rosa Ana makesher appearance .
The mix of classical and urban dance, opera and
hip hop, decor and character make Captured to a contemporary and varied presentation.

Susanne Marx, choreografe Susanne is choreografe en regisseuse van V.E.T. Ze studeerde aan de School voor Nieuwe Dans Ontwikkeling van de Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten en bij DASARTS in Amsterdam. Ze maakt dans- en theatervoorstellingen, vaak in samenwerking met andere theatermakers en kunstenaars. Tevens geeft ze dans- en theaterles via theater de Krakeling. Voorgaande producties van Susanne Marx zijn onder anderen Ad Infinitum met beeldend kunstenaar Stefan Zeyen; 5 Proper Positions, een dans-filmisch experiment met videokunstenares Fleur van Dissel; Niets dan Goeds, een eclatant succes-theaterstuk met ouderen van het tehuis Tabitha; Solo, 29: the B-side, over choreograaf Martin Butler; en Bedtime Stories, een dansdrieluik dat in Nederland toerde. |

Francis Sinceretti, danser Francis is de voormalig solodanser van Het Nationale Ballet en artistiek leider van de Nationale Balletacademie en ontving in 2001 de Gouden Zwaan, de Nederlandse dansprijs voor zijn prachtige carrière. Sinds een aantal jaren werkt hij samen met jonge moderne choreografen die nieuwe dansvoorstellingen maken, zoals Annabelle Lopez Ochoa en het Scapino Ballet. |

Caggie Gulum, danser Caggie Gulum is 20 jaar en deed een MBO dansopleiding en volgde danscursussen in Amerika. Hij treedt heel veel op als danser, in clips, shows, televisieprogramma’s en theatervoorstellingen. Het laatst was hij te zien in het Nieuwlichtersprogramma van Het Nationaal Ballet. Daarvoor danste hij langer bij Monique Duurvoort o.a. in (W)edge. |

Junadry Leocaria, danser Junadry Leocaria is 23 en danst al sinds 2004 bij ISH en heeft veel opdrachten in het vrije circuit, bij festivals televisie, modeshows en videoclips. Ze danste o.a. in Footprints en L.O.U.D. en Balls. |

Martin Butler, bewegingsadvies Martin is choreograaf, scenograaf, art director en performer en begeeft zich op de raakvlakken van dans, muziek, mode, video en andere hedendaagse kunstvormen voor het Liminal Institute. Zijn werk is te zien in heel Europa, in galeries, theaters, museums en modepresentaties, momenteel werkt hij aan een opera in Roemenie. In 2007 presenteerde hij The Girlfriend Experience in Mediamatic. |

Evrim Demirel, componist Evrim studeerde Compositie aan de Izmir High School of Fine Arts en studeerde piano bij Nergis Sakirzade, daarna Theorie en Compositie aan de Department of the Music and Performing Arts Faculty aan de Bilkent University in Ankara. Verder Jazz piano aan het Rotterdams Conservatorium bij Rob van Kreeveld, electronische muziek bij Rene Uijlenhoet en compositie bij Klaas de Vries. Na zijn masteropleiding werkte hij met Theo Loevendie aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam en keerde terug naar Istanbul, waar hij nu woont en componeert. |

Streamer (Gary Shepherd), DJ en muzieksamenstelling Gary werkt in de studio als Streamer, zo produceert en remixt hij filmische soundtracks voor cutting-edge theater- en dansvoorstellingen. Zijn alter ego DJ Alec Smart is te vinden in de funky clubs, feesten en festivals. Hij heeft een heel brede muzieksmaak, zijn verfrissende sound laat zich beschrijven als Big-Funk-Mash-up-Hip-Break-disco-quality-music. Lekker om naar te luisteren en aanstekelijk om op te dansen. |

Maximilian Ehrhardt, harp Max studeerde harp in Feldkirchen, Zurich en aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Hij rondt momenteel zijn masteropleiding barokharp af. Speelde solo en veel met orkest en toerde afgelopen jaar met The Protocol of Desire langs Nederlandse en Belgische theaters. | |

Rosa Ana, rap en zang (Amsterdam, 1983) Rosa Ana ziet rappen als een kunstvorm, een vorm van expressie. Haar stijl is recht uit het hart. Van rappen op straat tot het rappen op verscheidene podia. Met de Mighty 8 maakte ze een verzamelalbum en ging tournee door Nederland. And Beyond ..., Jolanda van den Broek, Brigitte Hendrix, kostuums en set/decorHet duo van And Beyond heeft het samensmeden van verschillende stijlen en invloeden tot nieuwe stijliconen tot hun handelsmerk gemaakt. Ze putten onder meer uit urban culture en uit allerlei andere hedendaagse bronnen, van bloedserieuze tot ludieke, rebelse underground: van PLO tot clown rebel army. Maartje Nevejan, interviews en tekst Maartje heeft een theaterachtergrond en werkt sinds jaren met jongeren met een niet-westerse achtergrond. Zij was verantwoordelijk voor de indrukwekkende programmareeks voor televisie, Couscous en Cola, uitgezonden in binnen- en buitenland. |

Kirsten Schötteldreier, sopraan Kirsten studeerde klassieke zang aan de Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Duitsland. Ze treedt regelmatig op in opera en geeft concerten in Nederland en Duitsland. Ze voelt zich steeds meer thuis in het hedendaagse muziektheater. Tevens coacht zij jonge zangers, met uiteenlopende achtergronden. |
